1317. NANETTE, oder die Tàndelnde Venus. Mit 12 Kupfem. Berlin: 1792. 8vo. Three parts in one volume, pp. 78, 94, 94. Twelve plates. Ashbee describes this volume in a footnote to p. 401 of vol. 3 of his Bibliography. He States that ‘the 12 roughly done engravings are copied from French originals.’ The book comprises three separate s tories, each with its own titlepage and pagination. The first two of these, Die irrende Venus and Die tàndelnde Venus, are greatly abridged versions of John Cleland’s Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure and Histoire de dom B.. . Portier des Chartreux respectively. The final taie, Die wachende Venus, is a translation of an unidentifiable French work. P.C. 31.i.6.

A copy of the first édition of this translation, published in 1885 with the false date 1880, is preserved in L'Enfer at no. 133. German and English text. This book is an account of several theatrical events of the utmost savagery, the photographs showing animais and, apparently, people being hacked to pièces.
