It is the first in a series, of which the following volumes were published by G ... ch (Family Connexion etc.). The author is a New Zealander, who sold his manuscripts to the publishers cited during a trip he made to Paris." The publisher referred to is Elias Gaucher.

At the head of the front wrapper, and the preface signed, "Dr. Luiz." Some confusion seems to exist concerning the paternity of this work. In the Catalogue Générale de la Librairie Francaise (Paris: 1892; vol. 12, p. 322), is the following entry: "Luiz (le Dr.), pseud. sous lequel Paul Devaux a publié ses deux ouvrages `Les Fellatores' et `La Noblesse du 4 Septembre.' " The entry in the same publication for Paul Devaux repeats this.

In the catalogue of the Bibliotheque Nationale (Paris: 1909; vol. 39, col. 1285) Les Fellatores is listed under the name "Luiz", and this is asserted to be the pseudonym of Devaux. However, rather uncharacteristically, the General Catalogue of the BL has not picked this up and merely enters the work under the name "Luiz" without comment. Further, and to confuse the issue, Gay / Lemmonyer (Paris: 1897; vol. 2, col. 269) and L'Enfer (109) suggest that Devaux was the publisher of the book, by giving "(Devaux, éditeur)." P.C. 31.d.22.

The two prceding works were published together in one volume in 1905, probably at Paris, and this volume was reprinted again recently at New York in 1970 by Grove Press, as one of their "Zebra" pocketbook series.

Gay (3rd ed. vol. 3, p. 455) notices an edition published in 1815 "marquée Paris," and calls for 17 engravings.
