Volume 6 (T.C. no. 57) had the credit for the translation shared jointly between 'Casavini' and John Crombie (?Richard Seaver), while volume 7 (T.C. no. 58) was entirely the work of Crombie.

L'Er fer dates this edition 1866, but according to the Bulletin Trimestriel, a periodical published by Poulet-Malassis and listing for the most part his own clandestine publications, it was published in early 1868. (See: Bull. Trim. no. 3, April 5, 1868.) P.C. 30.c.25/1.

1642. (Another edition.) "La Philosophie dans le boudoir" ... Amsterdam: 1860. (Brussels: Auguste Brancart, c. 1882.) 8vo. pp. 270. (10 April 1884.) P.C. 26.a.1.

My reason for feeling that this edition is one of Brancart's publications is that the titlepage is graced by a vignette showing a satyr fellating himself, an odd device that appears on many of Brancart's books. The imprint is rather prophetic as Brancart in fact moved his publishing business to Amsterdam about 1886.

Cup. 366.aa.43.).

1645. (La Philosophie dans le boudoir.) "Le Boudoir de la Philosophie." (Paris: Centre de Créativité, 1968.) 4to. ff. 50. Reproduced from typewriting; the text printed on the rectos only. Originally published in an edition of 20 copies in 1965, this copy is part of a seconde tirage issued on 18 April 1968. The text is an abridgement of Sade's La Philosophie dans le boudoir with words coined by Maurice Lemaître replacing some of

The New Epicurean was first published at London in 1865 by William Dugdale. The present edition was printed at Brussels for a London bookseller and secret publisher named Lazenby. Two modern editions of this work have corne to my attention. The first, entitled The Sensual Epicurean, was published at New York in 1968 by Bee Line Books. The second appeared together with James Campbell Reddie's The Adventures of a Schoolboy in a compendium volume published by Grove Press at New York in 1969 in their 'Zebra Books' series of paperbacks. Finally, in the Bodleian Library at Oxford there is a pamphlet entitled The Delights of Sex by 'Réné Maillot' (n.p., n.d., 13 x 10 cm. Blue wrappers printed in black, text encadré. Pressmark Φ f 110.). According to thé Bodleian catalogue this is founded on Sellon's "The New Epicurean".

A similar collection of these quatrains, published at Munich in 1970, will be found in this handlist entered under the title Wiener Blut, at no. 1881 post. (13 December 1947.) P.C. 15.aa.19.

In original wrappers. J. B. Rund's copy, with his bookplate. It is perhaps sufficient, in describing this volume, merely to reproduce the comment Mr. Rund has written in pencil on the recto of the leaf facing the title: 'This is, without question, the most pretentious, insipid and ignorant work on the subject ever! It outstrips Ralph Ginzburg's Unhurried View of Erotica ... The value of this book - about 10c - hardly worth the paper it's printed on.' (31 August 1976.) P.C. 25.b.24.

1743. "STORY OF NEMESIS HUNT, (The)." Atlanta, Ga.: Pendulum Books (1967). 8vo. pp. 127 (xvi) of advertisements. Original wrappers preserved. The introduction, occupying pp. 5-8, is signed 'Jean Chouart' (i.e., Lydia Fish?). Nemesis Hunt appeared originally in three volumes between 1902-7. Odd volumes and edited highlights were reprinted and passed off as original works in the 1920's and 30's and the present book would seem likely to be a reprint of one of these. The original work is extremely rare, only one complete set being known to me. It was found in a second-hand bookshop in East Anglia by the present author, and subsequently found its way into the library of a London amateur. Gershon Legman suggests that its author may have been John S. Farmer. (30 April 1973.) P.C. 22.aa.Il.
