preserved. This volume has all the hallmarks of being a Soho forgery. (31 May 1967.) P.C. 13.h.24.

1812. (Another edition.) Rape. Paris: Olympia Press (1955). (London? c. 1960.) 8vo. pp. 199. Original wrappers preserved. Apparently another Soho-type forgery. (30 January 1964.) P.C. 14.g.25.

1813. TERROR. (Paris) : Ophelia Press (1958). 8vo. pp. 179. Original wrappers preserved. (30 January 1964.) P.C. 14.g.26. In all, twelve books credited to 'Marcus Van Heller' were published by Olympia Press during its Paris years of 1953-1965. Of these, the first eight were by John Stevenson, these being:

  • Rape (1955),
  • The Loins of Amon (1955).
  • With Open Mouth: (1956),
  • Roman Orgy (1956),
  • Cruel Lips (1956),
  • The Wantons (1957),
  • The House of Borgia (1957), and finally either
  • The House of Borgia, pt. 2 or
  • Terror both of which appeared in 1958.

Of these final two tides, the former is the more likely candidate for Stevenson's authorship since it was published some nine months before Terror and is a clear continuation of a volume already established as being his work. I have been unable to identify the author(s) of the remaining 'Marcus Van Heller' books whose titles are Nightmare (1960), Kidnap (1961), and Adam and Eve (1961). They have been attributed to John Coleman, apparently incorrectly.

1814. VAN MARCUS, (Carl), pseud. Her Brothers Two. Liverpool Library Press (Sausalito, Calif. : Tiburon House, 1970). 8vo. pp. 190 and 2 unnumbered pages of advertisements. Original wrappers preserved. (30 April 1973.) P.C. 22.aa.3.

At the conclusion of the book is written, in pencil, 'Donated to the British Museum by E. J. Dingwall pp. Messrs. H Ltd. 1953.' A translation of this work, entitled Our Fair Flagellants by 'Jeremy Hornell' was published in two volumes by Grove Press at New York about 1970. It was clearly a reprint of an earlier edition published c. 1910. (30 June 1953.) P.C. 19.a.22.
