Gluteus maximus

The gluteus maximus is the largest and most superficial of the three gluteal muscles. It makes up a large portion of the shape and appearance of the two hemispheres of the buttocks. The other two parts are gluteus medius and gluteus minimus which are smaller and in deeper layers.

The large size of the gluteus maximus is one of the most characteristic features of the muscular system in humans, connected as it is with the power of maintaining the trunk in the erect posture. This uniquely large and fleshy mass, in turn, is what makes the human buttocks so ideal for spanking.

Straining the buttocks muscles is known as clenching.

These photos are presented for the purposes of identifying various body parts
