Coccyx

The coccyx (pronounced kok-siks), also known as tailbone, is a small bone at end of the spine, situated a little below the top of the crack between the buttocks. The term coccyx comes originally from the Greek language and means "cuckoo," referring to the shape of a cuckoo's beak.

Coccyx injury

The coccyx can be injured by a hard impact, such as a fall (e.g. when skating) or the impact of a spanking implement. The risk of coccyx injury is particularly high with hard, heavy implements such as wooden paddles.

Injuring the coccyx can give rise to a condition called coccydynia. These photos are presented for the purposes of identifying various body parts
