The verb to strap has two meanings: a) to bind, fasten or secure with a strap, b) to beat with a strap. Both meanings are used in spanking art and literature, but usually b) is what is meant.

A strap (noun) is a long, narrow strip of pliant material such as leather.

A strapping is a spanking or beating administered with a strap or belt. Usually the spankee is bent over a chair or a bench, or in some other way is bent at the waist with the bottom available. For example, the on-all-fours position presents the naked buttocks well. In some cases, the spankee lies prone on a bed to be strapped. A strapping can also be called a lashing or a stropping.

A strapping is typically given to a teenage boy or adult man. In domestic discipline, a woman may give her man a strapping for violating a family rule. In military discipline, a strapping may be administered on a man.

In general, a strapping starts with a warming of the buttocks. After a time, there's a relaxed sensation. As the session proceeds, there is a stinging sensation as the condition of the buttocks moves beyond rosey red. A spankee may be brought to tears by increasing the tempo of the strokes.

However, a strapping may leave marks that take days to diminish. Some men may ask to be marked. This is typically done by saying, "Harder Ma'am" or "Harder Sir."
