Consensual spanking is spanking that takes place with the full and free consent of all involved parties, in particular both the spanker and the spankee.
Consensual spanking includes the categories:
Spanking as a type of BDSM play is usually always consensual (see also the safe, sane and consensual credo).
Nonconsensual spanking on the other hand, include:
- military corporal punishment,
- judicial corporal punishment,
- prison corporal punishment,
- domestic violence,
- spanking of children for punishment (i.e. excluding games and things such as birthday spanking)
- school corporal punishment.
Disciplinary spanking can in some cases be consensual (e.g. in domestic discipline) but will usually be nonconsensual.
