Domestic violence is a term that covers a great many aspects of life. It is generally used to refer to violence by a husband, partner or boyfriend against his wife, partner or girlfriend. However, in these more egalitarian times (at least in the Western world) women are becoming as violent as men in domestic relationships. This is even truer when we are talking about lesbian relationships.

Domestic violence can mean slapping, hair pulling, punching, kicking or spanking the other person. In one or two legal cases verdicts have been returned against even the practice of consensual spanking, although more recently the courts have begun to give verdicts that recognise that consent is as much an issue in this field as it is with rape.
