Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland (proper title: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) is an 1865 novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It tells of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children. It is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre. Its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre.

The book has never been out of print. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has been translated into at least 97 languages. There have now been over a hundred editions of the book, as well as countless adaptations in other media, especially theatre and film.

Alice and spanking

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland does not feature any spanking, but the character of Alice, the seven-year-old little girl from an English middle class home in the Victorian era, wearing a (usually blue) dress, a white pinafore, white or pale stockings, flat black shoes and a hairband over her loose hair, going for adventures in the realms of dream and imagination, was found "spankable" several times in adapted works.

The 1950 comic Alice: New Adventures in Wonderland is an example of this.
