Acetylsalicylic acid, commonly known by the brand name aspirin, is a drug that reduces pain, fever, inflammation, and blood clotting (see Anticoagulant).

Because of the latter effect, aspirin and BDSM/spanking play do not mix well. The body will mark more than normal if the bottom has taken aspirin before, resulting in greater and longer-lasting bruises, welts and redness. If the skin breaks, it will also bleed more.

In the making of spanking videos, the actresses/models sometimes take aspirin before the shot so that the spanking will look more severe on film.

Acetylsalicylic acid is a derivative of salicylic acid which was originally extracted from the bark of willows. Salicylic acid got its name from the Latin name of the willow tree, Salix.
