The half-standing position is a spanking position in which the spankee is standing in front of a table or desk and lays his or her upper body flat on the table's or desk's top, so that his/her overall body is in an upside-down 'L' shape. It is thus, in fact, a "half-standing, half-lying position".

The spankee's hands can cling onto the far end of the table or desk, or can be in other positions, e.g. under his/her head so that his/her arms provide padding, or held on his/her back. In BDSM, when a table is used, the is also the possibility of bondage by tying the spankee's hands or feet to the table's legs.

The half-standing position is similar to the bent-over-object position, which uses furniture with a smaller (and often, padded) top, such as the seat of a barstool. The main difference is that in the half-standing position, the spankee's feet bear some (maybe 20%) of his/her weight, while in the bent-over-object position, they usually touch the ground, but bear little or no weight. Also in the bent-over-object position, the spankee's body way form more of an upsider-down V than an L, with the bottom uppermost.

The half-standing position is popular for spankings in school settings, as desks are readily available there. It is often used for caning, strapping, or spanking with a ruler.

With a normal, "adult" table or desk, the half-standing position is possible for teenagers and adults only, as preteen children may not be able to reach the ground with their feet when laid over a desk or table. In this case, the position will be a "half lying, legs dangling", rather than "half standing" position.

Variants

  • The leaning position is similar in that the spankee (when holding his/her upper body low) is also roughly in an upside-down 'L' shape, but without laying his/her upper body down.
