Objectification is the process by which people assign meaning to things, people, places, activities, and the like. Thus they become part of cultural constructions which inform and guide people's behavior.

Objectification also refers to behavior in which one person treats another person as an object and not as a fellow human being with feelings and consciousness of his or her own. In this sense, it is a synonym of reification. The term is used, for instance, in reference to the mass media purported portrayal of women as sex objects.

Self-objectification refers to a person's objectification of themselves.

Forms of Objectification

Dehumanization
A process by which members of a person or a group of people assert the "inferiority" of another group through subtle or overt acts or statements. State-organized dehumanization has been directed against perceived racial or ethnic groups, nationalities (or "foreigners" in general), religious groups, sexes, sexual minorities, disabled people as a class, economic and social classes, and many other groups.
Fetish model
A fetish model is a model who wears fetish clothing and/or devices. Many such models wear what is termed as fetish fashions which are clothing styles that incorporate extreme elements designed to illicit a strong emotional reaction or desire on the part of the watcher. Such clothing range from exotic stylized bathing suits to extreme costuming including body armor and sci-fi fantasy suits.
Model (art)
Art modeling involves the posing of a model as an aid in creating a work of art. Models are frequently used for training art students, but are also employed by accomplished artists. The most common types of art created using models are figure drawing, figure painting, sculpture and photography. Although commercial motives dominate over the esthetics in advertising, its 'artwork' commonly employs models.
Model (person)
A model is a person who poses or displays for purposes of art, fashion, or other products and advertising.
Modeling is distinguished from other types of public performance, such as an acting, dancing or mime artistry, although the boundary is not well defined. Appearing in a movie or a play is generally not considered to be modeling, regardless of the nature of the role. However, many models can also describe themselves as actors. Fashion modeling is similar to acting, as the models have to express an emotion and feeling in their
Nude model
Models for life drawing classes are often entirely nude, apart from inconspicuous personal items such as small jewelry. In a job advertisement seeking nude models, this may sometimes be referred to as being "undraped".
Nyotaimori
Nyotaimori (Japanese: 女体盛り, "female body presentation"), often referred to as "body sushi", is the practice of eating sashimi or sushi from the body of a woman, typically naked. As a result of being served on a human body, the temperature of the sushi or sashimi comes closer to body temperature, which some may see as a disadvantage or a benefit.
Sexual objectification
Sexual objectification is objectification of a person, seeing them as a sexual object, and emphasizing their sexual attributes and physical attractiveness, while de-emphasizing their existence as a living person with emotions and feelings of their own. The concept of sexual objectification and, in particular, the objectification of women, is an important idea in feminist theory and psychological theories derived from feminism.
Total enclosure
Fetishistic activities based on total enclosure of the body.
