Fur
The term fur normally refers to animal hair, usually from mammals, particularly those with extensive body hair coverage. It can refer to both the hair on the living animal, and to animal pelts which have been processed into leather with the hair still attached.
Fur can be used for warm and decorative clothing, such as coats, coat/jacket collars, hats, caps, or boots. Today there is also a wide range of artificial fur (fake fur) available on the market which can be used instead of animal fur.
Fur and fetish
Fur fetishism is having a sexual fetish about fur. A famous example is Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, the author of Venus in Furs, who entered a slave contract under the condition that his domme was to wear fur "as often as possible, and especially whenever she was in a cruel mood".
Fur is a very soft and sensual material when brushed over bare skin. This property makes it popular for erotic play, for example rubbing the partner with a piece of fur, or a fur glove.
Another phenomenon is the furry fandom about anthropomorphic animals with fur.
Fur can also play a role in plushophilia, a paraphilia involving stuffed animals.
