Chemical play refers to any form of sensation play involving the use of mild irritants such as wintergreen oil, menthol, Tabasco sauce, and the like to create a sensation.

As a lot of substances used in chemical play are slow-burning and often long-lasting, this kind of activity can be used towards the end of any session so that the submissive can continue to feel the effects for an extended period.
