Greece is a country in southeastern Europe. Its population is about 11 million, its capital and largest city is Athens and its official language is Greek.

Greece has a mainland and a vast number of islands. Ancient Greece was one of the forefronts of modern civilization and gave much of its culture to Ancient Rome.

Spanking in Greece

Corporal punishment was popular in both ancient and modern Greece. An extreme example of corporal punishment and harsh child training in antiquity is Sparta.

A spanking is known as Ταχύς (Takhís) in Greek, and the verb "to spank" is Δέρνω (Dhérno).

Recently, all spanking of children was banned in Greece in 2006.
