A sack is a bag, especially a large one for carrying or storing goods.
Sacks as a restraint
In reality and fiction, a sack is sometimes used to immobilize a person, e.g. a kidnapper might tie their victim into a sack, but also a good person might do the same to an evildoer, such as a robber or thief, to bring them to justice. A sack made of coarse fabric will permit enough ventilation to avoid the danger of suffocation, whereas a more airproof material (such as plastic) would highly dangerous.
In traditional Central European folklore, children were threatened that Saint Nicholas or his companion (e.g., Knecht Ruprecht) would put them into his sack and take them away if they were naughty.
