René Giffey, c. 1925.

René Giffey (1884-1965) was a French illustrator. Apart from mainstream illustrations, he also illustrated spanking novels such as Cuir et Peau by Alan Mac Clyde (1934) or Éducatrice ou la Belle Vengeance de Lord Howard by Joan Spanking (1934).

Giffey was born in Paris and attended the National School of Decorative Arts and the School of Fine Arts. His first works appeared in the magazines Saint Nicolas and l'Écolier Illustré. Giffey began drawing comic strips in 1921 and concentrated on this art form since 1933.
