Transmuters were a cleverly-conceived knee-high boot on stacked soles with attachment points for a wide variety of panels and tongues. Transmuters can have their appearance changed in a few moments by removing one set of panels and replacing them with another.
Transmuters and panel accessories are no longer being made; however; eBay is a good source of second-hand boots.
