The term SysOp indicates a person who is a System Operator, a person in authority who:

  • maintains the system or software, makes back-ups, and generally keeps the site running
  • is an "ultimate authority" when settling disputes between users, and/or
  • is the "Captain of the Ship" who decides where the site should be going.
