A novel is an extended work of fiction. It is often published in book form, under separate covers. In commercial terms, any work of fiction containing 60,000 words or more is generally considered a novel. A series of related stories with continuing characters may also be considered to form a novel.
Short novels are called novellas. A graphic novel is the comics equivalent to a novel or novella.
A spanking novel is a novel or novella in which spanking is a continuing theme. Spanking novels usually take the form of a series of spanking stories, which are often published one by one.
