With Rod and Bum, or, Sport in the West end of London by Ophelia Cox. A True Tale by a Young Governess is a classic Victorian spanking novel that was first published by Charles Carrington in the 1890s (1892 or 1898).

Short title: With Rod and Bum, or, Sport in the West end of London by Ophelia Cox. The title variant Modern sports in the Westend of London seems to exist only in the German translation (see below).

Contents

Ophelia Cox is a young English governess who tells the story of her life and the various flagellations which she experiences as a spankee, witness and spanker.

Translations

The novel appeared in German translation in 1908 under the title Rutenspiele und Liebesabenteuer der Miss Ophelia Cox. Modern sports in the Westend of London by John Birch. The translation was reprinted in 1930 and features eight flagellant drawings by H. Wenske. It was censored ('indexed') in Germany in 1969.

A French translation was published under the title Mémoires de Miss Ophélia Cox, with six illustrations. Ashbee lists it as 1791, but this date must be a mistake.
