The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) is an American independent film written and directed by Rebecca Miller. The screenplay is based on her novel of the same title. It stars Robin Wright Penn, Keanue Reeves, Julianne Moore, Blake Lively, and Winona Ryder.

Synopsis

The film, which is full of quirky incidents and offbeat characters, is about a fifty-something housewife (Robin Wright Penn) who looks back on the wild days of her youth. Blake Lively plays her younger self in a number of flashback episodes.

The spanking scene

In a 1960s flashback segment, young Pippa (played by Blake Lively, 21) runs away from home and stays with her lesbian dominatrix aunt Kat (Julianne Moore), who is a writer and photographer. A fetishistic BDSM photo-shoot is set up to take pictures that will illustrate a novel Kat is writing. During the session, an underwear-clad Lively goes over the knee of Shelly (Christin Sawyer Davis) for an F/F spanking with a carpet beater. This is a posed shot and not a real punishment scene; still, Shelly gets carried away at first and gives Pippa a hard whack with the carpet beater. An alarmed Kat yells at her, telling her to just pretend. Pippa gets a second smack that's a bit less severe.

Lively is also seen wearing a number of fetish outfits including a leather collar with chains attached.

(Robin Wright Penn is also birched in the 1996 film Moll Flanders.)
