The Big Valley is an American television Western series which ran on ABC from 1965 to 1969. Barbara Stanwyck stars as Victoria Barkley, owner of the Barkley Ranch in California's San Joaquin Valley in the 1870s. Her children are played by Richard Long, Lee Majors, Peter Breck, and Linda Evans.

Synopsis

In "The Brawlers" (season 1, episode 14, 1965) Claude Akins plays the leader of a band of Irish immigrants who claim a section of land on the Barkley ranch which they insist they bought and paid for in San Francisco. This creates a conflict with the Barkley family, especially with Audra (Linda Evans) and the hot-tempered Nick (Peter Breck).

The spanking scene

In the opening scene, Audra rides out to confront a band of Irish settlers trespassing on the Barkley's land. She gets into a heated argument with their leader (Akins) and lashes out at him with her riding crop. He manages to pull her off her horse and holds her under his left arm. In this underarm position he spanks her a dozen times across the seat of her tight-fitting pants before letting her go.
