Thanking for punishment
Thanking for punishment received is a ritual sometimes employed. For example, after a spanking is over, the spankee is made to thank the spanker for it.
The reasons for this ritual can be various, such as:
- to humiliate the spankee further
- to actually make the spankee feel grateful and to remind him that it is trouble for the disciplinarian to administer this
- to make the spankee aware of the fact that the punishment was for his/her own good
- to reassure the spanker that he/she did a good thing
- to formally mark the end of the punishment.
The thanks can be freely worded, or the spankee can be made to learn a formalized wording by heart which is to be said. The spankee can be told before the punishment to express the thanks afterwards, or can be told to do so after the punishment. The thanks can also be combined with a formal or informal apology for the sin committed, and/or a promise to change one's behaviour for the better and never to do it again. They can also be combined with the ritual of kissing the implement of the punishment as a symbolic gesture of gratitude.
Another technique is to make the spankee thank the spanker for each stroke individually. This is mostly found in caning when the spankee is made to count the strokes. It can take a wording such as "One, thank you sir" or "One, thank you sir, may i have another?"
