Template : Infobox film Syntax Guide

  • Film Name (Variable: name)
What's the name of this film?
Example: Batman Begins
Use: the full name of the film including punctuation and style. ("The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day", not "The Boondock Saints" or "All Saints Day")
Avoid: linking the name of the film.
  • Relevant Image (Variable: image)
By which graphic can the film be identified in the marketplace?
Use: a logo, film poster, or a media cover.
Avoid: screenshots.
Size: Images are currently resized to a 200px width. For better visual quality, use an image with a width greater than 200px.
  • Image size (Variable: image_size)
The size of the image when used in the template
Use: Preferably, don't use this. If used, enter a number specifying the image size in pixels.
Should only be used in case the image is smaller than the 200px specified. A better option would be to find a larger image. Don't set the image size above 200px, ever.
  • Image caption (Variable: caption)
The description for the image (eg. Batman begins theatrical poster)
Use: A short description of the image. Is it a poster, a dvd cover, or something else? (See above for what an image should consist of.) This is used as the alternate text that will be shown by hovering the mouse over the image. See also [ [Wikipedia:Alternative text for images]].
If omitted, the caption will be the file's name.
  • Director(s) (Variable: director)
Who were the film's directors?
Use: the popular name(s) of the director(s).

  • Producer(s) (Variable: producer)
Who were the film's producers?
Use: the popular name(s) of the producer(s).

Punctuation and style

  • Linking.
Use: a single link per subject.
Avoid: linking the same subject twice or more.
  • Multiple entries.
Fields that commonly use multiple entries:
director, writer, starring, producer, distributor, movie_language
Use: <br /> between entries.
Avoid: [ [comma]]s, [ [semicolon]]s, and other marks. (Entries are separated by the return character.)
