Movie description

Walter Lloyd gets along with, but isn't close to, his teenage son, Chris. That changes when Walter's wife, Donna, is kidnapped while in Europe and Walter and Chris head overseas to find her. During their cloak-and-dagger adventure, the two men become closer, with Chris discovering some surprising things about his seemingly ordinary dad. Father and son, played well by Gene Hackman and Matt Dillon, respectively, must learn to trust each other in order to save Donna in Arthur Penn's exciting thriller.

Credits

Producer: K.K. Null, Richard D. Zanuck Cast: Gayle Hunnicutt, Gene Hackman, Matt Dillon, Victoria Fyodorova

Shot on location in Dallas, Texas; Corpus Christi, Texas; Paris, France; Berlin, Germany; and Hamburg, Germany.

Gene Hackman performs all his own stunts, including the leap off the Hamburg Bridge in the chase sequence.

TARGET marked the third time Gene Hackman and Arthur Penn worked together. Their first two films were BONNIE AND CLYDE and NIGHT MOVES.

Nothing exciting ever happened in Chris' family. But within 48 hours, his mother will be kidnapped, his father will be forced to reveal a secret past and he will find himself at the center of an adventure he never dreamed could happen to him.

A Personal Note from Robin

The one major selling point (for me) is Gayle Hunnicutt who plays Hackmans wife and Dillons mother. For more than half of her onscreen time, she is bound and gagged in what looks like an old aircraft ejection seat, wired with explosives. With Hackman as a retired CIA operative, diligently attempting to defuse the booby-traps wired to his wife, the audience is presented several minutes of Hunnicutt in bondage.

This is one of those movies that I enjoy watching at four in the morning on Turner Classics channel<g> Also see the page [ Films T ]
