Shelley Lubben is a former pornographic actress under the stage name of Roxy. She became an activist against the pornography industry.
Biography
Lubben claimed she was sexually molested at the age of 9 and was a prostitute in her late teens in order to support herself. She entered the adult industry, battled alcohol and drug addictions, and contracted herpes. Her story was featured in the documentary, Traffic Control.
Prior to beginning her career in adult film, she was an exotic dancer and prostitute in California.
In 1995 she entered recovery and started has a non-profit organization reaching out to actresses in the sex industry. She supported California legislator Charles Calderon on his efforts to tax the pornographic industry by speaking to lawmakers about her experiences in 2008.
Roxy grew up in southern California and was kicked out of the house by her parents for teenage rebellion which led her to the streets where she became a prostitute for six years and then entered the porn industry in 1993. She eventually contracted genital herpes and left the porn industry. She estimates that she made approximately 30 movies
Lubben supported California legislator Charles Calderon on his efforts to tax the pornographic industry by appearing with him and speaking to audiences about the evils of pornography.
Death Lubben died on February 9, 2019, in Springville, California at the age of 50. No cause was given though drug overdose is suspected.
