Ruth Cole, the Lady who was the guiding force of People Exchanging Power passed away on January 2nd, 1994. I would like to offer this piece as a Eulogy to the passing of this truly beloved Lady.

The Story of Ruth

In the biblical Book of Ruth, Ruth says, "Wither thou goest, I will go.
Wither thou stayest, I will stay. Thy people shall be my people, and thy God, my God.
Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried.

Ruth Cole died this month. Ruth was a Lady with a heart as big as all out doors. She had gone to Tulsa just a few days before her death for a medical check-up. The doctors told her that except for a "suggested minor hip surgery", she was in excellent health.

She returned home to Dallas, to take up the reins of the BD/SM club known as "Lone Star People Exchanging Power". She was sitting in her living room with her friends, Robin and Charles, watching TV. She was mentally planning events for their group; three events a month plus "drop-in and play" on Saturday evenings. She clutched her chest and died. She died with her friends. The paramedics arrived within minutes but could do nothing. She had passed over.

She died with her friends, doing what she enjoyed; running and managing a place where people who are into BDSM could go and be with other people of like interest.

The doctors said she died of a heart attack but I think that is a very small part of the story. I think her body gave up.

Her arms gave out from all her "huggin' and squeezin". The Lady went way out of her way to welcome people into her home. She opened her arms and her heart to countless guests she barely knew, simply because they were "into the scene". She did this even when she was not feeling well.

Her back gave out trying to bend over backwards trying to help people. She saved lives, friendships and marriages. She put up with drunks, whiners, groaners, and people who complained about "where are all the females".

Her legs gave out from all of the walking in other peoples' shoes. She took time away from work, and even stayed up nights, trying to help other people, to understand them, and to help them understand themselves.

Her knees gave out from begging and pleading for help from a group of members who barely knew she was there, except when they wanted a place to go and play.

Her feet gave way walking the floor nights worrying about her friends and associates.

Her eyesight was failing because she stayed up nights trying to put a newsletter together, only to be derided when it arrived late; someone's name was misspelled; or omitted.

Her ears gave out. Instead of hearing compliments or praise, she was harangued about the amount of (or lack of) equipment, videos, books, refreshments, you name it.

Her metabolic system failed because she would give up meals to insure that an event would start on time.

Her brain gave up and quit. She was just unable to find another way to get people to visit her home and have fun.

She grew tired of holding her breath, waiting for people to pay dues and/or event costs.

The Lady died with her close friends at hand. The Lady's flesh failed. Her "heart-eries" finally gave up. The Lady died because her heart was truly made of gold.

It is truly a shame that she could not of heard, or read these words while she was alive.

I would refuse to delete a word, since I want this to be read in every followup and hope others do the same. In the meanwhile, while I did not know Ruth I feel richer for having read this of her and poorer for the worlds loss of such a rare individual. I am sure that GOD, needed somebody to teach the newly arrived in heaven how to play.

RIP

RUTH

May I be blessed with knowing such as you in my lifetime.
