My dad had a wonderful sense of humor, developing what we used to call 'Pop Humor'. He would tell you the facts of life in short, sweet and to the point:

  • "Never anger a person who has access to your toothbrush"
  • "Do everything in moderation, including moderation!"
  • "If you want to know who you are, take an inventory of your friends and heroes"
  • "Flies spread germs - Keep yours zipped!"
  • "Life is interesting: the first ten years you learn how to keep yourself zipped. The last ten years, you try to remember to open them".
  • "On plumbing: Pipe don't stretch and shit don't run uphill"
  • While living in Palmdale, I had spent the day out in the desert. Coming home, my dad said to clean up prior to dinner. When I pseudo-balked, Pop issued the warning, "The manufacturer suggests daily cleaning of all equipment prior to use!"
