Mein Schicksal. Bekenntnisse von Edith Cadwé (My destiny. Confessions of Edith Cadwé) is an autobiographic book by Edith Kadivec in German language that was first published c. 1926 in Leipzig/Vienna by Astra-Verlag. The book was later reissued under the title Unter der Peitsche der Leidenschaft (Under the Whip of Passion). The sexually explicit work became an important piece of sadomasochist literature, and started Edith Kadivec's life as an author.

Edith Kadivec became the center of a spectacular lawsuit in Vienna in 1924, in which she was found guilty of abusing her students through sexually motivated chastisement. (See the article Edith Kadivec for more on this.) She wrote this book during her lawsuit and in prison, perhaps with the help of the journalist Josef Kalmer.

Further works and translations

After Mein Schicksal. Bekenntnisse von Edith Cadwé, the author wrote Bekenntnisse und Erlebnisse (July 1931, a revision of the former work) and a sequel titled Eros, der Sinn meines Lebens (December 1931). These were later also published in English translation under the titles Confessions and Experiences (New York, Grove Press, 1971) and Eros: The Meaning of My Life (New York, Grove Press, 1969).
