Leather drive belt

A leather drive belt is a flat drive belt made of leather. These belts were mostly used in big machines, such as in industrial workshops and for agricultural purposes, until they were gradually replaced by rubber belts and other materials in the early 20th century.

These drive belts were made from heavy hydes, such as buffalo, and were cut from the animal in a special spiral technique. They come in measurements that exceed those produced and available on the market nowadays - such as 8-10 cm (3-4 inches) wide and several meters long. For that reason, antique drive belts are sometimes used as a pervertible item when recycled by creative spankophiles into spanking implements such as tawses, slappers and leather paddles.
