Hunter Boots have been making Wellington boots since 1856. They used to manufacture them in Scotland, but moved production of most ranges to China and Serbia at the end of 2008, at the same time that the company moved from Dumfries to Edinburgh. The foreign subcontractors did not use the latex dipping technique that required hand assembly of some of the parts. Although this cut costs, it removed two major reasons why someone would want to buy Hunters: that they are a UK-made latex-dipped boot.
