Welcome to the BDSM-Archives.org Project
The Leather Archives and Museum in Chicago has been instrumental in providing a centralized place for leather, gay and lesbian information, but to date there is no such place for heterosexuals. Several weeks ago, Mistress Michelle Peters and I were talking about the need to archive the information we have collected of the years into a centralized place for "The Next Generation".
Before the beginning of BackDrop forty-five years ago, I began collecting magazines, movies and other material related to BDSM.. I will readily admit to being a bibliophile - my library has grown to well over 16,000 volumes. I am also the author of www.sm-201.org, a 15,500 page, Wikipedia style website about BDSM, spanking and fetishes
What we want to do
- To have a "museum" of sorts to house a collection of memorabilia about BDSM and "The Good Old Days".
- We intend to provide a place for learning about all Alternative Lifestyles, but with a central emphasis on heterosexual BDSM.
- We intend to find space where we can house everything, and have space for meetings and educational events, etc.
- We also intend to have several knowledgeable "docents" to help people learn about BDSM and how to play safely.
- We also wish to have several people help people outside the scene understand "WIITWD" (What it is that we do)
To get things going
- We have already filed Articles of Incorporation in the State of California. (click here to read .pdf file)
- We are currently in the throes of creating a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation to actually provide the infrastructure for handling the day-to-day operations of such an organization.
- Robin Roberts has loaned his entire 16,000 volume library to act as a cornerstone for this new venture.
- We will asking for donations at the 2011 Folsom Street Fair.
- We, the people at The BackDrop Club, have decided to donate a portion of the proceeds from our events to help support the BDSM-Archives project.
- We are currently accepting any and/or all gifts to breathe life into the organization.
