Let us proceed from heavyweight fetishism to the lightweight in our monthly perusal of perverted products, for a change. Usually, we start off mild and sink into the wild depths of industrial strength dementia, but this month, we have an offering from the semi-dangerous folks at Desmodus Publications, Box 6592, Chicago, Illinois, 60680, that is timely, tough and treacherously trenchant, especially in light of the recent controversy about the film "Cruising."

This movie deals with the world of S&M and leather fetishism in a particular subcult of the male homosexual community. This particular subcult, the heavy leather gang, has contributed much to the "style" of S&M for heterosexuals and homosexuals. For example, it is a certainty that many of the items of S&M equipment on sale at the various B&D boutiques are a product of homosexual invention and manufacture.

Desmodus Publications puts out a newsletter entitled "Dungeon Master," and I will say right off the bat that art-wise and production wise, this tiny pack should have all of the other fetish newsletters whining with shame! It is neat as a pin, sharp as a tack, clean as a whistle and very literate. Its subtitle is "A newsletter of male S&M equipment and techniques," and DungeonMaster never strays far from the issue at hand. The newsletter is strong on methods, techniques, devices, and fetish gear, and although it is specifically tailored to the fantasies, desires and particular fetish interests of male-to-male sexuality, even the most experienced and sophisticated dominant female can learn something from it. It's that good. In the issue I received, there was no "porno" bullshit, no attempt to appeal to crude turn-on writing-strictly facts, techniques, ideas, and even reviews of relevant books and magazines dealing with historical information on torture techniques. "Dungeon Master" is not bloody, stupid, or a rip-off. It has no photographs, but every technique article was accompanied by crystal clear drawings of hardware in use. An amazing publication, one which should not be dismissed by FT readers because of its openly gay basic trip. Like we stated early on in this review, there's material in here that can enlighten even the most jaded female dominant. A single issue can be ordered for a mere two dollars, and once you and your slaves are hopelessly hooked, you can get a full year's subscription (six issues) for eight dollars.

How about another newsletter, while were standing here by the mimeograph machine chewing on our chains? Well, the beastly gang at "Skye Publications", P.O. Box 324, Riverside, IL 60546, sent us a living, breathing, hot-pink copy of their new "Dominant Newsletter". This is quite a different item than the more typical fiction booklets one sees from Skye. We've written these beauties up before in FT, and be assured, they make fine reading for the Mistress of the house and her herd of slaves. The Newsletter, however, is in the real world, it is a clearing house for dominant women and their whip-scarred slaves, four tightly-packed pages of information by, about and between the members of the 'Gynosupremacist" underground! Yes, Virginia, Skye is now actively recruiting cooperation from Dominant women to help make the company's dream world of total female rule the actuality of the 80's! Want to help out? Want to locate the dominant Amazon goddess of your ultimate nightmare? Get on the Skye mailing list! "The Dominant Newsletter" goes for ten dollars for ten issues, and we are sure that when FT readers are dealing with Skye, they are dealing with a dedicated, committed, serious-minded and sexually hip outfit.

Let us attach tiny wings to our toes and enter tattoo heaven for a brief moment. Among fetishists, tattooists are perhaps our meekest, mildest, brethren and sisters. One needn't be a screeching sadist or a wounded wimp to lust for a little skin art to decorate one's hide. Now, there is "Tattoo News," a quarterly publication coming from P.O. Box 780, Midtown Station, New York, NY 10018. This magazine strongly resembles some of the work of Spider Webb, the famous upstate New York tattoo upstart who we've featured in past issues of FT. His name does not appear on the masthead, so we assume that he has little or nothing to do with "Tattoo News," and, as a matter of fact, his epic work "Pushing Ink" is subjected to a very objective, knowledgeable review in the issue of "Tattoo News" we received. This publication is excellent, it is like the "Dungeon-Master" newsletter-well thought out, sincere, informative, sexually restrained (in the best sense of the phrase), clearly printed, literate, and respectful of its audience's obsessional interests. Tattoo freaks, like shaving freaks, piercing freaks, toenail fetishists, and other sexual specialists, have a hard time finding reading material centered on their esoteric interests. "Tattoo News" fills the bill! It is specialized, has good photo reproduction (within the limits of the black-and-white newsletter format) and has exactly the right attitude toward its subject matter that will make it a treat for tattoo people and all other FT folks who have an appreciation for this timeless human art form. We can recommend "Tattoo News" without reservation. We wish these folks all the best in their endeavors.

Although it deals with themes of "sex and violence," Bizarre Times # 2 is perhaps the feather-weight of the group of Perverse Products featured in this issue. First of all, it is an adult comic book! If its possible, one supposes, that a comic book could be totally pornographic, repulsive, violent and disgusting, but usually, the mere absence of photos seems to take a lot of the "sting" out of whatever bizarre behavior is taking place. This is the case of "Bizarre Times #2," a mild-mannered, semi-crudely drawn S&M fantasy-adventure comic with the mandatory female super-heroine-this time it's a gal called "The Siren," a semi-mystical creature capable of crushing the nuts of any thug with a mind toward abuse. Other tales deal with sexual treachery of various sorts, and one features a Conan type* male hero, Dakar. The absolute best drawing in the Sot is the cover, an eight-and-one-half-by-eleven Bill Ward drawing of one of his super-stacked, fetish heartthrobs preening before the mirror. The whole package is cheap, at a mere $2.50, and you get it by writing Artists' Press, P.O. Box 501, Dealtown Road, Elmer, New Jersey 08318.
