Contents
The book was made as a female pendant to the famous 1845 book Der Struwwelpeter by Heinrich Hoffmann. It tells the stories of Liese (Lieschen), a naughty girl who has to suffer the consequences of her misdeeds.
In one story, Liese is described as a "good girl" who has but one shortcoming: her sweet tooth. After having too many sweets, she becomes ill with stomach ache for fourteen days. After her recovery, her mother gave her the birch on top as a 'reminder'.
In another story, Lieschen did not want to say her bedtime prayers. Goblins come to plague her, and finally Knecht Ruprecht appears and threatens her with his birch rod.
