A Star Trek conbadge

A conbadge is worn to identify the user as staff, press, a paid attendee, or guest, at conventions. It may take the shape of a laminated plastic card, a lanyard, run pin, or any identifiable item worn on the person

• At a trade show or convention, information might include name, address (or just home city), email address or web address, vendor status, purchasing interests, or maybe) a photo for identification purposes.
• In the case of science fiction cons, it may include the users' interests, "rate or rank", or species.
• Motorcycle and sportscar clubs often use run pins to show that the user attended a specific event.
• Conbadges (or run pins) are given as rewards by companies to show the user has completed a training event, or has been an employee for a predetermined number of years.
• Gaming conventions use badges to show game of interest and or level of play.
• Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) uses coins to mark periods of sobriety

A conbadge serves many of the same purposes as a company identification badge.
