Common Bonds
and should NOT be used for any reason other than reading enjoyment |
I published twenty-two issues of Common Bonds Magazine over the years. Twenty-two was not as many as I would have liked, but definitely more than my budget had allowed.
CB (Common Bonds) was usually twenty-four to sixty-four pages printed on eleven by seventeen inch paper, folded in half and saddle-stapled to create a standard magazine format. It was printed in black and white, with stories, articles, calendars, photos and drawings on the inside. The cover was intentionally designed with a "sterile" appearance on the front cover, so that people could "leave it on a coffee table".
Issue number one was printed while the clubhouse was in Hayward. It was produced by typing the individual articles on an electric typewriter, not a word processor. They were then cut them into strips and pasted onto large sheets of card-stock to make camera-ready artwork for the printer shop (a place with printing presses not computer software).
Issue twenty-two was printed while we were on 8th Street in San Francisco. It was produced entirely on computer using WordPerfect and Xerox Ventura Publisher. (I am amazed how much technology, the club, and the world in general had changed in that period of time <g>)

- Common Bonds was distributed by SanOaks Distributors (owned by Jack Wolf) in San Rafael, which later merged with Ero-Tech (run by his son, Bob Wolf) of San Francisco.
- Years later, I helped some friends to initiate an online e-zine called Underground Echo
'Common Bonds' is the name of a magazine which is currently in the planning stages.
