Every show has a custom musical score, performed live.

👗 Costumes & Makeup
Elaborate, colorful, and often surreal designs.
Costumes are tailored to the show’s theme and the performers’ needs.
🌍 Global Influence
Cirque draws from a wide range of cultural traditions, mythologies, and art styles.
It has an international cast and crew, and tours around the world.
🐘 No Animals
One of its founding principles was to break from the traditional circus model by eliminating animal acts.
This was revolutionary and helped redefine what a circus could be.
The Cirque du Soleil Experience
Going to a Cirque show feels like stepping into a fantasy world—where music, motion, and magic blend. It’s immersive, often emotionally moving, and always a feast for the senses.
History
Cirque du Soleil is a world-renowned Canadian entertainment company known for revolutionizing the concept of the circus. Here's a brief overview of its history:
Origins and Founding (1980s)
Founded in 1984 in Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec, Canada, by Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix.
It began as a troupe of street performers called Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul, doing stilt-walking, juggling, and fire-eating.
In 1984, the troupe received a government grant to create a show to celebrate Quebec’s 450th anniversary—this became the first official Cirque du Soleil production.
Early Growth and International Expansion (1990s)
The company quickly grew in popularity due to its unique blend of acrobatics, theater, music, and no-animal policy, differentiating it from traditional circuses.
Key early productions like “Nouvelle Expérience” (1990) and “Saltimbanco” (1992) helped solidify its international reputation.
Cirque began touring globally, establishing a presence in Europe, Asia, and North America.
Las Vegas Residency Shows (Mid-1990s–2000s) In 1993, Cirque launched its first permanent show in Las Vegas, “Mystère,” at the Treasure Island hotel. It was a major success.
This was followed by other iconic Vegas shows like:
- “O” (1998) at the Bellagio (water-themed)
- “Zumanity” (2003) at New York-New York (adult-themed)
+ “KA” (2004) at MGM Grand (martial arts inspired)
- “The Beatles LOVE” (2006) at The Mirage (music tribute)
Creative Evolution and Corporate Changes (2000s–2010s)
Cirque du Soleil diversified with multimedia projects, musicals, and collaborations with artists like Michael Jackson and The Beatles.
At its peak, Cirque had multiple touring and resident shows across the globe, employing thousands.
In 2015, the company was sold to a group of investors led by TPG Capital, with Laliberté retaining a small stake.
Pandemic Challenges and Restructuring (2020–2021) The COVID-19 pandemic hit Cirque du Soleil hard, forcing it to suspend all performances and lay off thousands.
The company filed for bankruptcy protection in June 2020.
It emerged from restructuring later that year, under new ownership, and gradually resumed shows in 2021.
Current Status
Cirque du Soleil remains a global entertainment powerhouse, known for innovation in live performance.
It continues to run resident shows in Las Vegas and other cities, as well as touring productions worldwide.

A Personal Note from Robin
I have attended the Cirque du Soleil "Kooza" and "HOPE" events using free tickets from 'VET TIX'. Both of these shows were spectacular.
One of my friends asked about my attendance.
"Did you enjoy the show?"
"As a kinkster and bondage rigger, I go to watch the amazing ground equipment and rigging, not the show!"
