BackDrop was housed in a 3,500 square foot building on 8th Street in San Francisco, when Susan decided to return to teaching. We decided that it should teaching was a good idea, but that it should not be done in San Francisco.

Damian (who had been working under the scene name "Makita" because it portrayed "power tools") was our "Sessions Manager".

Ed (who was in the Navy, stationed at Concord) was a really good friend, and he was more or less my Executive Officer. He and Damian were really good friends, and when I broached the subject, a plan came together for a transition.

Ed would be the owner, but Damian would become the manager of the new sessions house yet to be named.

Susan and I would maintain ownership of the BackDrop name, our personal session toys, the library, and all club records, but all other session equipment would remain with Ed and Damian.

Ed borrowed my asking price for the "sessions business" we met with the landlords and the remaining year of our lease was transferred the lease to Ed. Ed and Damian decided that it would appear "more politically correct" if Damian was the "owner". She decided on the "Castlebar" because it was a county in Scotland where her ancestors had lived "a very, long, long time ago".

Damian had problems making the 8th Street property work for her: it was too big for what she was trying to accomplish.

When the lease ran out, the landlord decided not to renew the lease. Damian moved all of the session "accouterments" into storage for quite a few months. The following year, she moved Castlebar into a metal, commercial building on Old Bayshore in San Francisco. The building had been used as a machine shop with a few offices built into the street side of the building. Because the building had been a machine shop, it had large open doors (which had been removed from the building) so large pieces of machinery could be moved in and out of the shop areas. Damian attempted to weatherproof the building by adding blue plastic tarps to keep the weather out.

Damian held many wonderful events at both venues at both of venues. Some of the first "Dog and Pony Show" events were held at the Old Bayshore building.

When she closed the Old Bayshore building, Damian had an auction to sell off all of the equipment that I had originally sold to Damian. I bought a lot of that equipment back and moved it to our Mountain View clubhouse.
