BONDAGE A GO GO, has been a sanctuary for the tattooed, pierced, scarified and misanthropic since 1993. A haven to those who wish for a dance on the dark side of life. Interactive BD/SM, cocktails, dancing and unspeakable forms of socialization are the driving force behind this event, the City's premiere underground dance party.

Started by a small group of BD/SM, tattoo and body modification aficionados, Bondage A Go Go features an industrial/goth dance macabre courtesy of DJs Damon and Fernando. DJs Jorge and Big Bad Bill spin 70s rock fantasia in the front room, interactive BD/SM with Dungeon Master Hawk, and delectable go-go dancers complete the visual feast. Our guests are pansexual (straight, gay, bi, trannies) so all are welcome.

Voted best theme club by SF Weekly readers for the past FIVE consecutive years, Bondage-A-Go-Go is a San Francisco institution and the City's longest running fetish dance party. Although not for everyone, Bondage-A-Go-Go is a one-time diversion for some and a 24-hour way of life for others.

Live events at Bondage-A-Go-Go have included the Mr/Ms BaGG contests, the Bettie Page Look-A-Like contest, special performances by Mistress Pandora, Fat Chance Belly Dance, Two Knotty Boys, and the Reverand Steven Johnson Leyba.

Feeling the tax crunch? Have no fear. Those sick little fucks over at "Bondage A Go Go" are ready and willing to supply you with some monetary relief. They ask very little in return, just a little bit of self inflicted humiliation, mutilation and/or humiliation. Everyone in San Francisco is invited to enter the "What Would You Do For $1,000 Contest". There a few restrictions: Contestants are asked only not to physically and permanently harm themselves, animals or other people. This means no gunshot wounds or stabbings (though scarification is welcome).

Says club manager George, "We're basically looking for people who will tie their tits in knots or eat apples and shit applesauce". Host Corey McAbee will appear as the suited and suave Billy Nayer in an attempt to give the proceedings a passing semblance of dignity. Interested and/or desperate parties are required to preregister and sign forms releasing the club from any and all liability. Yahoo! You know it's gonna be good. [...]

[...] We started off at Bondage A Go Go. Downstairs it's a regular dance club with no fetish dress code but things get a lot more interesting upstairs in the SM bar. This is an ideal entry point, where anyone who's a bit unsure about heavier clubs can come along, have a drink and get the feel of things. The roped-off play area is overseen by Hawk, the friendly Dungeon Master, who expertly made novices welcome and kept beer-drinking lads from the downstairs area at bay. If you decide to take a plunge and have your lover run cat o' nine tails over your back, Hawk will make sure you have space and time. [...]

Sin International Magazine. March 1993. Blurb by Tony Kaufman ** review of our opening night in 1993

"Held on hump day, Bondage A Go Go's first night drew in more than 500 people. And just as the flyer had promised, "Free drinks from 10 til' 11 for women handcuffed to the bar". DJ Jackal was spinning hard edged industrial terror noise, and the crowd, dressed conveniently in fetish gear reflected the styles currently emerging from the German techno-industrial scene."

SF Weekly. March 16, 1994 . "Slap Shots" by Jack Boulware ** review of the first Miss BAGG contest

"THE GENUINE THING. "I can use it for school", chirped the winner of the Miss Bondage A Go Go 1994 Contest, slipping the $200 cash prize into her G-string on-stage at the spacious Trocadero Transfer last week. Contestant #14 got the best of several other scantily clad contenders, including two that were, tragically, born without female genitalia. Genuine fang teeth were among the entrants, including the winner. Genuine Hells Angels were in attendance. Genuine roses were presented to the champ. Genuine Draft was consumed. And the crowd went nuts, like any drunk crowd in a bar would if presented with nasty, pumping music and dancing young women in skimpy outfits wiggling on display.

And yet, the post show discussion outside the club reveals another side: "Number 10 was Monica? Did you see her giving that guy a blow job? Man, that's bad for PR."

Sin International Magazine. July 1993. Feature by Tawni Bradfield.

"Yes, its mostly show, but you can't fake those red marks after being whipped! Upstairs in the VIP lounge you will find yet even more entertainment. There are more people performing a few of their bondage desires in a roped-off area. We're talking about really being tied up, or handcuffed, or taped or whatever.

So what kind of people go to Bondage A Go Go? People who aren't afraid to test their boundaries. Don't get me wrong-you're not tied up by a stranger, unless of course, that's what you want.

As you would expect, you'll see lots of leather a latex, tattoos and piercings. This club is for those who aren't afraid to express themselves."

A Personal Note from Robin

About 1993, Backdrop was at 8th Street in San Francisco. I was approached by Wolfe (a BAGG DJ) and asked if BackDrop would provide "entertainment for BAGG. Susan and I, and several of the BackDrop staff personnel went to BAGG on several Wednesday night parties. We would close off a section of the upstairs for play space and have fun. We would often allow volunteers from the audience to become "victims" to the ministrations of the BackDrop Staff Mistresses. Ah, those were the days.
