"Aloha" with Pernell Roberts

This piece of theater was produced at the Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, California

The stageplay "Aloha" (with Pernell Roberts) is one of those stage plays that I still remember today even though I am now in my 80s. The entire cast was, I believe, only four or five people but they played a dozen roles. Throughout the show, the cast undergoes many costume and makeup changes.

The plot was a simple one wherein the young couple meet, date, marry, have children, grow old together, and then grow apart. Theater magic allows the audience to see the players age from young adults into an aged couple, complete with period clothing. They also play the parts of their own children and their neighbors

In their later lives, the husband has an affair with his secretary. During this time, the husband and secretary play a series of fantasies wherein they run away and live in Hawaii. This fantasy becomes more and more real. When the husband tries to explain to his wife that the spark had gone from their lives and they are growing apart. He tells her of his affair with his secretary. The wife, in a moment of anger, tells the husband that he is getting old and no one would put up with him and his fantasies.

His response was, "Alooo-ha" and he turns and leaves the stage. The goes black and it is the end of the play.
