Akira Naka (✦09/11/1940 - 07/17/2005 ) is one of the patriarchs of shibari.

Most colleagues admit that it was Akechi Denki who did a lot to improve the technique of binding. Including for adapting elements from hojojutsu into shibari. They also note the extraordinary complexity and beauty of his performances.

Akechi Denki always wore black glasses (and most often black clothes to boot) to his performances. According to one legend, he wore them in order to emphasize his invisibility, to bring to the fore the model and beauty of her suffering. From other sources, he had sensitive eyesight and the stage lights caused him great discomfort. Be that as it may, this appearance is recognizable.

Quote from his interview:

“In SM, shibari is communication between two people through a rope. This is the connection between their hearts, made with a rope. Therefore, the rope must be embraced by love, as the hands of a mother embrace her child.
