Wiki - a Hawaiian word meaning quick.

Information about the derivation/etymology about the word wiki is available at the wikipedia website

A wiki is a website that allows everyone who has a browser and Internet access not only to read content but also to create new pages and edit every page freely. Acts of vandalism can be reverted as every page preserves a history of past versions.

The best known wiki as of today is Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia in more than 100 languages that already features more than 500,000 articles on all kinds of topics in the english language version alone. If you want basic information on anything, Wikipedia is a recommendable, perhaps the best, place to go.

For that reason, probably the best description of what a wiki is and how it works is the article "Wiki" on Wikipedia. See the link at the bottom of this page.

If you're new to wikis, a good idea is to have a look at the source text of any article by just pressing the "edit" link but not saving the page afterwards. This is also useful to copy and paste wiki source.
