How to make patterns for a Corset

  1. Put on a shirt that you are willing to sacrifice to the cause. Wrap it with Duct Tape (See: use of Duct Tape Number #56,230,695 <G>) to fit the contours of your body. You don't necessarily want it too tight: you can adjust everything in the next few steps.
  2. Using a pair of scissors, cut the T-shirt off
  3. Placing it on a table, and apply Duct Tape to close the cut you just made.
  4. Determine if you are going to make a four, six or eight piece pattern
  5. make marks where on the “pattern” where the vertical cuts will be made.
  6. Place a large straight edge along where the cuts will be made and cut the pattern with a roller blade.

What are you making the Corset from, and how to make adjustments.

  • Patterns for Latex
You need to add about 1/2" to each side of the pieces you have cut. This overlap allows the pieces to be glued together
  • Patterns for Leather
Add 1/2" to those seams that will be sewn together.
You need to add about 1/2" to each side of the pieces you have cut. Fold the edges back about a full inch and insert eyelets about 1/2" from top and bottom. Split the rest of the length of the seams evenly so that eyelets are spaced every 1 1/2" to 2" apart.
  • Patterns for Cloth or Fabric
You will need to add about 3/4” so you will have space to use a footed sewing machine. After you have completed sewing the pieces together, you can cut off the excess.

You want a pattern, but not for a Corset?

If you wish to make something other than a corset, you can use the same procedures, but you may want to use something other than a T-shirt. (They have too many holes for making a pair of trousers or a hood <G>)
I have found that using stockings and Vet Wrap instead of a T-shirt works quite well. (Let you imagination be your guide for other pieces.)
I have been told that using liquid latex instead of Duct Tape only marginally works. Other than the ventilation problems, cost and fragility, I see no problems. <G>
