Club RUB is a fetish club run with care for its audience and a down-to-earth charm that makes it one of the London club scene's best-kept secrets.
History
Club RUB's founder Kim has been running fetish clubs for a dozen years. Her first club The Rubber Nipple was the stuff of legend - that makes Rub ten years old, the UK's second longest-running fetish club, and going strong. Events attract between 400 - 500 people monthly in the same London venue - Dukes. They've also recently gone into partnership with hood heaven site Hoodlovers, no doubt partly due to Kim's passion for hoods.
"I have a love of all hoods: rubber ones, in particular, for purely aesthetic reasons. No - I don't get off on them! What I get off on is private. I'm an outfit queen not a sexual exhibitionist. Fetish is my business and part of my social life; it's not my entire life. I have a real interest in fetish and BDSM but wouldn't define myself by my job. I enjoy the social interaction, the creativity and the fact that you can still party even if you are 100 years old! I love meeting people, am very sociable and love to talk, so I have the perfect business."
Kim and her friend Daniel formed the Rubber Nipple Club in April 1995 then Kim struck out alone to start Club RUB in 1997. With a background in PR & marketing and conference and exhibition management, as well as performing the roll of Social Secretary at the London College of Printing for two years, she booked bands, comedy shows and discos. At the first Rubber Nipple Club 250 attended and the first Club RUB 350 people came. She told me "Club RUB has always been known as the friendliest club and an entry point for fetish newbies. Back in the early days when RUB had a venue with a stage, there were performances. Nowadays that's left to the experts - Torture Garden! Following the first few six months at the Chunnel Club.

I've attended several Rubs myself, usually as part of the Rubber Ball Weekend. We would always have our final party of the weekend there and it was a perfect choice; many long fun nights were had to let off steam after a tough and tiring couple of months of Ball work.
Fetish clubs seem to split into two camps, on the whole. One is the play club where the audience might be a little older and the music not so invasive. The side effect of that can be a tendency to take everything a little seriously when, on such a night out, you want to relax and enjoy yourself without worrying if your seams are straight or your rubber polished to perfection. The other kind is a club for people who wear their fetishes on the outside as well as the inside. A wondrous visual experience with only a little of the SM play. To me, Club RUB is the perfect marriage of both. It stands alone in the fetish scene as a place to meet genuine people to play within a vibrant party atmosphere but the music complements the scene rather than dominates it.
