Lesotho, officially the Kingdom of Lesotho, is an enclaved, landlocked country in southern Africa surrounded by South Africa. The name Lesotho roughly translates to "land of the Sotho".
The original inhabitants of Lesotho were the San people. Examples of their rock art can be found in the mountains throughout the area.

In the 20th century, school corporal punishment fell out of fashion and was gradually banned in many countries, a trend that continues until the present day.
As of May 2008, Lesotho permits corporal punishment in schools.
