Radical Rubber latex sheeting

Radical Rubber is a manufacturer of fashion-grade latex sheeting. It was established by latex designers and clothing makers Libidex in 2007 in partnership with a Malaysian manufacturer. Elastomade SDN BHD. Radical Rubber is the exclusive distributor for Elastomade fashion grade latex sheeting, which it markets as Radical Rubber.

The new latex sheeting company was launched as direct competition to 4D Rubber Company, which until then had dominated the market in latex sheeting for fashion designers. Radical Rubber was not only significantly cheaper than 4D, it also offered a new range of colours and effects for designers to choose from. When the new company came onto the market, latex sheeting prices fell by over 30% as 4D reduced its price to meet the new competition.

The new company was the brainchild of Libidex's owner and head designer Simon Rose. He believed that it was healthier for the latex industry to have more than one source of supply, and that competition would drive prices down and create better choice for the industry. This has proved to be right: the cost of latex sheeting initially fell. The recent rapid rise in the cost of bulk latex (due mainly to demand for car tyres from China and natural disasters in Indonesia and Thailand, two of the largest producers of latex) has driven prices up again. Nevertheless, 4D's price for a bulk order of 0.5mm latex sheet then was £9.48 per metre; Radical Rubber's price today (May 2014) is £8.95 per metre (before VAT). Also, 4D has followed Radical Rubber's lead in producing new colours for latex garment makers.

Radical Rubber is produced in Malaysia to a very high standard and conforms to international medical requirements in terms of levels of allergenic proteins present in its latex.
