CBT or C&B
Cock and ball torture; intense stimulation of the male genitals more often associated with pain, bondage, and endurance. See ball torture and cock torture.
CAFL (acronym)
Consensual Act of Forced Lovemaking
Cage
A bondage practice, wherein the submissive is kept inside a cage. They can be so small as to restrict motion or large enough for two or more people. A bondage practice, wherein the submissive is kept inside a cage. They can be so small as to restrict motion or large enough for two or more people.
Candle
A source of hot wax, which is dripped onto the bottom's body in BDSM play.
Caning
Use of a cane, a flexible rod. Caning a bottom is very intense and leaves very pronounced marks. Canes are semi-flexible rods that have a long history as an implement of corporal punishment. They are made from a variety of materials and in range of sizes, each one of which has its own particular qualities. Softer materials, like hazel, are often very flexible and resilient. They will strike with more speed and more "cutting" capability, but because of their compressibility they strike with less overall force than a more dense material such as rattan. Some modern materials, such as fiberglass, combine flexibility with high density to produce sensations not possible with natural materials. However, most caners prefer the psychological effect of natural bamboo and rattan canes.
Cat
An expression for an old school BDSM tool of discipline - the "cat o nine tails".
Catharsis (Greek word root) or Ataraxia (Latin word root)
To cleanse or purify
A person undergoing severe pain or emotional experiences will generate adreneline. As the adreneine levels subside, the person will have a feeling of well-being, relaxation and serenity.
Catheter
Flexible tube used in medicine; in BDSM catheters designed for the bladder are often utilized in 'control' scenes.
Catheterophilia
Sexual arousal from inserting a catheters
CBT
an abbreviation meaning for Cock and ball torture
Cervix - (see 'Sex organs')
The lower, narrow portion of the uterus where it joins with the top end of the vagina.
Chain
Mainly to be used for suspension. In some cases a smooth chain with a proper finish can be used on the skin. Quick release clasps are recommended.
Chastity
In SM circles most likely to mean banning or physically preventing someone from achieving orgasm or even any form of genital stimulation in the long term, usually as a means of asserting domination. Also known as enforced chastity (EC). A device intended for this purpose is known as a chastity belt or a chastity device, and wearing such a device is a form of bondage.
Chastity
A form of erotic sexual denial or orgasm denial whereby a person is prevented from access to, or stimulation of, their genitals, save at the whim or choice of their partner, usually by means of a device (called a chastity belt (or sometimes for men a cock cage) that prevents contact and is controlled by means of a lock by the partner.
Chastity Belt
A device used to keep the submissive chaste when the Dominant is away. Comes in both male and female models.
Chezolagnia
Masturbating while defecating
Circumcision
The cutting away of some of (or all of) the entire foreskin, in males. In the female, circumcision usually refers to the removal of the clitoral hood.
Clamps
Clamps are devices that apply pressure to a body part. They can be used on nipples, the chest and outer genitalia. There are many styles of clamps, from plain clothespins to specialized genital clamps. Nipple clamps are items that pinch the nipples. Some have adjustable settings so the pressure can be customized or varied. Others work only by a single spring mechanism and do not allow the top to adjust the pressure. Nipple clamps can also be used on other areas of the body, but here we will stick to nipples. Most tops test clamps first on themselves to get a feeling for the level of intensity imparted, often on the skin of the inner wrist or the webbing between the thumb and forefinger.
Clamps - Clover
Clover Clamps are intricately curved spring mechanisms whose actual purpose is to hold fabrics tightly for sewing. They can be bought very inexpensively at sewing stores. For scene use they are often sold in pairs with a chain attaching them. The flat ends have rubber coverings. The pressure they yield is intense and cannot be adjusted; in fact, they tend to ratchet to a tighter level when the chain is pulled. But many bottoms find them hot for exactly those reasons. They are very attractive and many tops never travel without them.
Clamps - Roach
Named not for the insect but for marijuana butt holders, they are matchstick-thin tweezers with small rubber coverings on the tips and a sliding ring that lets you adjust the tightness (like barbecue tongs). They are good for many nipple sizes. For scene use they are often sold in pairs with a chain attaching them.
Clamps - Rolls-Royce
They are heavy, strong-looking clamps with rubber tip coverings, a chain between them, and an adjustment mechanism that works by screwing them tighter (like screw back earrings). The adjustment mechanism works very well, and if the bottom's nipples are not too small, these clamps can be adjusted from very light pressure to fairly tight. Novices often find them the most comfortable of the nipple clamp styles.
Cling Film:
Generic term for plastic wrap which is used in mummification scenes. (aka "Saran Wrap").
Clitoris - (see 'Sex organs')
A small elongated erectile organ at the anterior part of the vulva in female mammals, homologous with the penis. (Klit in Greek means "key")
Claustrophobia
Fear of closed spaces - also see Phobophilia
Clip
Generic term for any BDSM toy (even if garnered at a hardware store) that can clip some body part of a submissive.
Clitoridectomy
Surgical term for removal of the clitoris.
Clitorilingus
Tonguing the clitoris. Also called "eating" which is easier to pronounce.
Clothes pins
wooden or plastic clothespins, typically used to produce pain sensation bby pinching the skin, usually on nipples and genital areas.
Clover Clamps
A type of adjustable nipple clamps that tightens as it is pulled. Also known as Japanese Clover Nipple Clamps.
Coca-Cola Submissive
A submissive who only obeys the easy stuff or only when he/she feels like it.
Cock Cage
A CBT device that encase a penis shaft inside it. Can be either a solid or web design.
Cock Cuff
A chastity device that consists of a tube welded to a handcuff, usually both made of stainless stelel. The penis is slid into the tube and the handcuff closes behind the ball sack making removal all but impossible without unlocking the handcuff. A very effective chastity device.
Cock Ring
Rubber or metal ring that slips round base of cock and balls; supposed to increase duration of erection but also has D/s aspects to it.
Cock slap
the act of hitting or slapping a partner with the penis in a demeaning manner.
Cock Strap
Leather or neoprene strap that wraps around the base of cock and balls to help improve erection.
Cock Sucking
See "fellatio"
Cock Torture
In the SM context means causing intense stimulation, discomfort or pain to the penis, usually including the foreskin, if present, using hands and any number of improvised or purpose-made devices. This is not so horrific as it might sound to some men:
the penis is often regarded as a particularly delicate and sensitive part of the anatomy but although there are specific health and safety issues to consider, the organ is sturdier than you might think, and can take a good deal of punishment without serious risk.
Collar
A band of leather, metal, cloth, or nylon encircling the neck to signify a bottom role. Chains or straps can be attached to it to secure the hands or legs. These collars can be different from a standard collar, which denotes ownership.
Collared
Submissive or slave who is owned, usually (but certainly not exclusively) in a loving intimate relationship. A Dom(me) may have multiple persons collared
Collaring
The formal acceptance by a dom, of a sub's service. Also the Ceremony when a Dom commits to a sub (much like a wedding or other contract).
Color Codes
ie: the hanky code for sexual preferences.
Condom
Propholactic; A Latex "rubber" that goes over the penis to prevent semen from entering a vagina. Also known as "rain coat" and "gym cap."
Consensual
based on mutual agreement; not coerced; one of the three cornerstones of social BDSM play - Safe, Sane & Consensual.
Consent
The consent of both parties is of vital importance in any sexual encounter, but the issue seems more pronounced in SM because many of the activities are those that are widely seen as unpleasant and undesirable in everyday life. Many SMers have therefore devised particularly techniques for managing consent.
Mutual agreement to the terms of a scene or ongoing bdsm relationship.
Consensual non-consensuality
A mutual agreement that within defined limits, or subject to a safe word or other restrictions, and commonsense, consent will be given as read without foreknowledge of the exact actions planned. As such, it is a show of trust and understanding and usually undertaken only by partners who know each other well, or otherwise agree to set clear safe limits on their activities.
Contract
A written-out agreement between the Dom/me & sub. It can be either formal or non, and is usually written after much negotiation by the Dom/me and the sub, outlining what structure, guidelines, rules and boundaries to the relationship are agreed upon by the two . It is NOT legally binding but should be taken seriously.
Control
In an SM context, most likely to mean scenes where the top takes control of the bottom through various techniques. Could also include scenes where actions which are normally volitional are closely controlled by the top, either through physical restraint or role-play.
Control freak
(Derogatory term) A person who seeks/demands unreasonable control over their environment.
Coprolagnia
Sexual excitement derived from feces
Coproalalia
Sexual excitement from dirty words
Coprophagia
Gaining sexual pleasure eating feces.
Coprophilia
Gaining sexual pleasure from brown showers.
Cordophilia
the pleasure of being bound and sometimes hung in ropes and chains
Corporal Punishment/Cp
Originally, retributive punishment involving the infliction of pain, often though not exclusively through blows administered with some form of flexible object like a whip or cane, and the palm of the hand. In an SM context, normally refers to the activities of caning, whipping and spanking. This term often implies some form of role-playing in which the bottom is 'punished'.
Using repetitive spankings to change a bottom's behavior.
Corset
Very popular clothing item that cinches and narrows the waist and gives the female an "hourglass figure". In the extreme:
Body modification (also see Pattern Making for instructions to make your own)
Cowper's gland - (see 'Sex organs')
One of two small exocrine glands present in the reproductive system of human males. They are homologous to Bartholin's glands in females.
Crop
A type of whip used in horseback riding, quite popular in BDSM scenes. It stings and can mark a butt severely, but is easy to master and quite reasonable in price.
Cross
Wooden crosses provide convenient points for stretching arms out of the way and exposing someone, and are particularly popular for back-whipping or flogging scenes. The straight (St George or Latin) cross may look good and have powerful associations for some people but a far more flexible and practically comfortable design is the x-shaped St Andrew's cross. These are normally built to lean slightly inwards so that the bottom can rest against them:
The arms can be stretched above the shoulders or, for longer scenes where comfort is required, fixed downwards on the other side of the cross. It's important that the cross is stable and the dimensions and the angle of the lean have a big impact on its usefulness. For more information on crosses.
Cross Dressing
Dressing in clothing usually worn by the opposite sex. In a sexual context, can be carried out as a sexual thrill in itself, in which case these men would be called transvestites. However, is also sometimes employed in power and humiliation games, and seems most common on the heterosexual BDSM scene where male bottoms are instructed to wear female clothing and even wigs and makeup by female tops. Unsurprisingly, given the unequal social roles of men and women, men are more likely to find women's clothes humiliating, whereas women might dress in men's clothes to feel powerful and dominant.
Crucifixion
The act of being tied, nailed, or in some other manner attached to a cross.
Crush Fetish
A paraphilia which primarily consists of the desire to be or see others crush inanimate objects or small creatures. Typically, those crushing will use their buttocks or feet making this fetish popular amongst many foot fetishists, as crushing by feet is usually the main focus. The foot (barefoot or in shoes) is thus often idolised by someone with a crush fetish.
Cuffs
Cuffs are mainly used for wrist and arm restraint. When referring to leg and ankle restraint, they are normally called shackles. They can be made from many different materials, from nylon with Velcro closings, to leather, to metal. Care must be taken in using cuffs since a tight fit can cut off circulation. Cuffs can be used to bind the hands to the sub's waist, ankles, thighs, or to other objects.
Cunnilingus
Licking and sucking the female genitals.
Cunt Torture
Any form of intense stimulation or pain inflicted on the female genitals: perhaps by abrasion, clips and clamps, electricity, temperature play, play piercing, gentle whipping and flogging and with nails and hands. The clitoris is the most sensitive part, and the clitoris hood (prepuce) and both labia will also repay attention. Some women are also particularly sensitive in the G-spot, a round raised area of fatty tissue about 1cm (1/3") diameter just inside the front wall of the vagina. Apart from the G-spot, the inside of the vagina itself is fairly insensitive.
Cupping
The placing of suction devices on the skin to increase blood flow. Typically these are used on the nipples and the genitalia. Increasing the blood flow increase sensation as well.
Cutting
Cutting the submissive's skin with a sterile knife. These can be either temporary or permanent. Made permanent by putting sterile foreign substances into them before they heal. Not for beginners.
